Approaching a Blank Canvas | Abstract and Composition with Katherine Simdon - Sat April 15th 12:30pm-3:00pm

Class Experience

Creating an abstract painting is like doing a puzzle without a picture to reference. In this class attendees will learn different techniques on how to approach a painting, start to finish. Creating a concept, choosing colors, and creating composition. Katherine will guide and help you navigate the painting on a 16"x20" canvas.

Materials Provided

• Apron
  
• Water cups for brushes

Supply List

• Paint (beginner paint sets are perfect
• Brushes/pallet knifes/squeegees or any mark making tools
• 16x20 stretched canvas (join the class before to stretch your own!)
• Clothes you don't mind getting paint on
  
• Sketchbook for sketching and taking notes 

Skill Level

Knowledge of working with acrylics.

About the Instructor

Katherine Simdon started her art career in 2013 after returning from Rocky Mountain School of Photography and is currently working as a mixed media artist in Stoughton, Wisconsin.

Katherine creates using her intuition, letting the things around her inspire, guide, or not tell her anything. When the artwork is done and the composition is complete, she sets aside time to meditate with the pieces to figure out where the memory or feeling came from. Creating artwork full of energy and

In 2021, Katherine opened Overt Space Gallery + Gift in Stoughton, WI where she creates, curates, and sells art and goods by her and others.

She enjoys the freedom that this storefront and studio has given her practice with working larger and starting to focus on installations.
