Over time, this complex relationship has woven itself deeply into semiotics and lore, but it also continues to inspire research and scientific advances. The animals in my paintings serve as metaphors for human issues because I find the symbolic potency of animal imagery fascinating and, occasionally, superbly comical. In the varied traditions of storytelling and heraldry from around the world, we often see other creatures indicating human traits or behaviors more explicitly than actual humans. The semiotics of wildlife acts as a familiar and accessible entry point to my artwork’s meaning, but these traditional interpretations can also function as playful foils since my art is centered on new discoveries about the natural world and modern human concerns. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMy imagery is striking, vivid, and layered which echoes the qualities that interest me the most as I gather inspirations from new research and journalism on zoology, history, theology, paleontology, conservation efforts, and the behavioral and social sciences. I work in oil paint, watercolor, gouache, charcoal, graphite, and digital painting to carefully orchestrate dramatic and fanciful compositions.
