We invite artists to submit work for our upcoming spring exhibition, Storytelling, a celebration of narrative, memory, and meaning. This exhibition welcomes work that conveys a story—whether clearly and directly or through suggestion, symbolism, rhythm, and atmosphere. We are looking for pieces that invite viewers to pause, look closer, and feel drawn into a moment, a place, an emotion, or an idea.
This is a non-themed, loosely guided call—you do not need to create new work. We encourage you to select pieces from your existing body of work that best capture story and invite connection: a scene that implies what came before and what comes next, a portrait that hints at an inner world, or an abstract work that communicates narrative through color, form, texture, repetition, and movement. Storytelling can be literal, symbolic, or entirely non-representational.
All accepted artwork will be featured in our gallery and on our website. This exhibition does not have cash awards.
How to Interpret the Theme
We are looking for artwork that tells a story—clearly or subtly. This can include:
- Narrative or implied narrative—A scene or moment that suggests “what happened” or “what happens next”
- Characters, figures, or presence (literal or abstract) that suggest identity, relationship, or experience
- A place or setting with mood and meaning
- Symbols or objects that hint at a deeper message
- Personal memories, family stories, or life experiences
- Myths, folklore, faith, or cultural traditions
- Abstract work that communicates story through color, shape, texture, and movement
- Story through material and process—work where technique, mark-making, and making itself are part of the narrative

At Overt Space Gallery & Gifts, we curate exhibitions that invite both reflection and connection. With Storytelling, we aim to create a show that draws viewers in—through narrative, memory, symbolism, and atmosphere—highlighting how art can communicate lived experience and imagined worlds alike. We welcome both emerging and established artists, including representational and abstract makers, to share work that sparks curiosity and invites conversation.
