SALES ASSOCIATE - POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS

Overt Space, an independent gallery + boutique gift shop located in downtown Stoughton, WI, is seeking enthusiastic and self-motivated Sales Associates to join our small team. We are looking for part-time Sales Associates who are available to work at least 10-15 hours(at least 2 Saturdays a month) a week and would like to grow in a creative retail environment. This position could be tailored a few different ways based on a candidate’s experience. I may be open to more store management or business development responsibilities for the right candidate.

We are proud to offer a flexible work environment. Hours vary by season with less hours early in the year and more hours during quarter four.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

• Creating a welcoming, fun, and memorable experience for all customers.

• Assisting with customer purchases; making recommendations and engaging in conversation about our merchandise, artists, and vendors.

• Staying current on all artwork, merchandise, vendors, and store systems/procedures.

• Processing sales through our point of sale system, ensuring transactions are processed efficiently and accurately.

• Upholding store cleanliness and organization standards. Maintaining the sales floor by straightening and remerchandising our creative displays, refilling back stock, and daily replenishment of sold merchandise.

• Assisting in receiving and preparation of shipment and new artwork and merchandise.

• Opening and closing the store and following company procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to initiate connection. Eager to create a memorable experience, hospitable, helpful, anticipates needs, and possesses excellent selling skills.

• Maintaining a strong level of professionalism, respect, and integrity while representing the store.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Values a small team environment and proactively seeks to support others.

• Ability to multi-task, practice efficient time management, rise to challenges, be adaptable, and be accountable for your work.

• While performing duties of the job, you will be required to maintain an active sales floor presence-including standing and walking for extended periods of time, lifting a maximum of 40lbs, and using a step ladder.

• Previous experience in a gallery, retail and/or customer service industry preferred, although we are willing to train those who demonstrate a strong work ethic, growth from past experiences, and a willingness to learn.

• At least 10-15 hours of flexible weekday and weekend availability during our store hours, including afternoons and evenings. Must work two Saturdays each month. Must be consistently available on weekends and before/after holidays. Please note this is not a seasonal position. Candidates should be willing to commit to a minimum of 6 months of employment.

• Must be available during special events, including gallery openings.
