Artist Statement: 

My name is Julianne Griepp and I am a Wisconsin-based illustrator. I spend most of my time creating digital illustrations, both for myself and for clients, but I love to experiment with different mediums and techniques. My main style is very dreamy, nostalgic, and inspired by pop culture and kitsch.

I think it’s easiest to describe my work by my influences. I love the kind of artwork that’s not considered “serious” art- illustration is my main love, but I also love comics, animation, television, and graphic design. I love the kind of art that you pass by every day and don’t think twice about- sign paintings, stamps, books left in little free libraries. I love art that’s overlooked, because as an illustrator I know that even the pieces that don’t qualify as “serious” art still have so much time and care and passion put into them.

I try to take imagery that’s very poppy and iconic, and use my knowledge of art history & technique to elevate it. I also try to incorporate my own dreams & memories in my artwork, because I think the most interesting aspect of art is how we see ourselves in it.
