Frog Pants by Pillbug Designs

"Amphibiously Correct" frogpants.

These are mounted with t-pins in a hand-made 8x10 poplar shadowbox frame. The frame is stained black and has a sturdy wire hanger on the back. Accurately sized for a leopard frog, these are highly detailed, hand-pieced, and accurately depict the colors of the frog in nature. The background is natural flax linen.

They are intended to emulate a mounted butterfly or exotic insect - the combination of seriousness (scientific accuracy, mounted metal bookplate with latin name, background lined with natural linen) and humor (frogpants!) makes these especially fun to display. 

Even frogs need pants!!

About the Artist:

Missy has a fascination with making tiny things, and after watching the chilly birds at her feeder, she thought she’d try my hand at making them some pants.

Several years and dozens of species later, she believes she's made strides in the world of avian fashion. Whether she can convince a bird to try them on is another story . . . Have you ever asked a hummingbird to sit still for a fitting?

Most birdpants start with a basic shape and idea, considering the colors, habitat and lifestyle of the bird. A cardinal would likely prefer some really red pants, but wouldn’t you expect a seagull to choose sailor pants? She continues until they seem like a bird would be satisfied. Beading, embroidery, paint, feathers and sparkly bits – whatever it takes!

A few years ago she ventured into non-avian territory, becoming a clothier to mice, squirrels and even tarantulas. She has a fairly practical day job, so she enjoys the preposterousness and impracticality of this artistic endeavor. She often giggles to herself as she stitches the world’s tiniest hems and hopes that they bring some fun into the world!

She's not yet heard of anyone attempting to put these clothes on an animal and does not claim responsibility if you get a sharp beak in the eye for trying.​

Missy grew up in Michigan, mostly in the Upper Peninsula. Other than 5 years in Boulder, CO she tends to stay around the great lakes, and currently lives in Madison, Wisconsin, with my beloved rascally mutt, Lola.​​
