Artist Statement:

The prints submitted are a small portion of a large piece entitled "Only We", a COVID-19 memorial utilizing installation-based visual design, handmade paper, traditional printmaking, artist’s books, poetry, light, and shadow to provide a space for reflection, healing, and growth specifically supporting Scott County’s community and those who have been impacted by the pandemic while acknowledging collective losses. In total there are 439 figures representing each person who was documented to have died due to COVID-19 or complications from the virus in our county. The prints are the reflections we experience as survivors of the pandemic. 

This project is a ground for what this community continues to mourn, highlighting the important pieces that slowly, and with love, stitch wounds together, in an attempt to heal and become stronger, holding space for sorrow, and bolstering a truth that there doesn’t need to be an “us” or a “them” only “we”.
