"Ornithologically Correct" birdpants.
These are mounted with t-pins in a 7"x 7" handmade poplar shadowbox frame, which is stained black. Accurately sized for the teeny tiny Lucifer Hummingbird's unique inseam, these are highly detailed, hand-pieced, embroidered, painted, embellished, and accurately depict the colors of the bird in nature.
They are intended to emulate a mounted butterfly or exotic insect - the combination of seriousness (scientific accuracy, mounted metal bookplate with latin name, background lined with natural linen) and humor (birdpants!) makes these especially fun to display. The frame has sturdy picture wire for wall hanging, and includes a signed certificate of authenticity affixed to the back of the piece.
