Artist Statement:

My favorite thing about art, what I love to learn about more than anything, is the circular, paradoxical, simultaneous logic it embodies. It mirrors the human experience in a way that makes art necessary. It mirrors life, it creates pseudo life. I love complicated relationships in art, that’s exactly the type of thing I want to learn more about, and I had never been hesitant to accept two truths at once. Visually, I’m exploring this through transparency and layering and opaqueness and clarity. It’s the best way I’ve found to participate in simultaneity. I’ve also found a lot of joy in this process. My main concern used to be how to save the world with my art but I’ve found I’m more happy researching and executing these pieces. That in itself is radical, it’s saving my world. Airplane rules, always put your mask on first. The product becomes commercialized, it’s coopted. The joy and experience of making can’t be. Of course I’m still exploring how to avoid that coopting visually, but who hasn’t been thinking about that these past fifteen years. Ultimately, my work is personal and identifiable, reflective of the complex relationships we all glean so much meaning from, and process based. I’d love to get to the point in my visual language development where I can be a Sasha Gordon or Robin F. Williams, make work deeply personal and widely relatable at the same time. For now, I’m very proud of where my work has taken me.
